Former scout claims how Arsenal signing youngster over Tottenham is a big deal

Willhoft-King rejects Spurs contract, seeks new horizons

There is an air of progress in North London as Tottenham Hotspur FC eye to build the new project with young players, aiming to rejuvenate the squad for future success; however, one of the bright starts at Tottenham Hotspur Way, Han Willhoft-King, rejected an offer of a new contract before being released, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Liliywhite Rose, John Wenham, reveals.

Han Willhoft-King has been one of the most highly regarded players in England, with The Guardian naming him in their Top 20 players to watch list a couple of years ago. He had been at Spurs since he was only six years old, and Guardian reporter David Hytner then described him as ‘smooth on the ball’ with an ‘impressive’ range of passing.

Lost potential?

Han Willhoft-King leaves Tottenham Hotspur after contract rejected.

However, he has opted to walk away from North London, irrespective of the interest shown by Tottenham in keeping hold of him. Wenham narrates the situation in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, saying:

“Willhoft-King was offered a new contract but decided to turn it down,” Wenham said.

“It is absolutely the correct decision for him. Tyrese Hall and George Abbott have both signed long-term deals, and he probably felt that the same pathway wasn’t available to him. He is going to try his luck elsewhere, and good luck to him.

“This is a brave decision; he has chosen to turn down a contract in an attempt to make faster progress somewhere else. I wish him the best of luck with that.”

The fact that the 18-year-old was offered a new contract shows that Tottenham recognizes his quality. However, he did not see a pathway to progress in North London owing to a lack of opportunities for academy prospects. This is something the Spurs boss should address to foster growth and development within the club.
