Will new signing push Dragusin to the periphery at Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur FC have been linked with a move for a new defender this summer, with Italian centre-back Riccardo Calafiori leading the candidates to join the Lilywhites. While Spurs pursue a move for a new defender, a centre-back in their ranks has barely been given any opportunities in Radu Dragusin.
The Romanian international moved to White Hart Lane in the winter transfer window in a highly anticipated £26.7 million (€31 million) transfer from Genoa after the 23-year-old chose to join White Hart Lane over Bayern Munich.
Spurs eyeing move for flexible defender, not Dragusin replacement
There have been expectations of his potential at N17; however, he has barely been given opportunities to prove his credentials, largely owing to the undisputed partnership of Cuti Romero and Micky van de Ven at the heart of Spurs defenders. While his lack of minutes under his belt has led to exit rumours only half a season after moving to Tottenham, his agent, Florin Manea, speaks about the club’s pursuit of a new defender this summer.
Florin Manea acknowledges Spurs interest in a new defender this summer, but suggests that it should not bother his client as the club is ‘not looking for a pure central defender.’
Speaking in an interview via Italian outlet TuttoJuve, Manea said:
“From what I know, Spurs are not looking for a pure central defender; they are more looking for a flexible defender.”
“In any case, Dragusin is ready for anything; he is not afraid of competition. I’m not worried because such a strong defender cannot be stopped; his growth cannot be slowed down.
“However, Tottenham have always placed trust in him, and in Serie A, he has faced very strong attackers. The only one who seriously put him in difficulty was Lautaro, but we’re talking about when Dragusin played for Salernitana.”

It is to be seen who the North Londoners bring in at the heart of defence this summer and if it does go on to affect Radu Dragusin throughout the upcoming season.
