Daniel Levy urged to sell Tottenham ‘disaster’ Giovani Lo Celso

John Wenham has recommended that Tottenham Hotspur offload midfielder Lo Celso following news from Spain regarding his transfer status. The owner of the respected Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose characterized the 28-year-old’s tenure in North London as a “total failure.” Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, suggested that Lo Celso could revive his career by returning to Spain.

Wenham said: “Lo Celso has been a complete disaster for Tottenham. I’m not interested in what he can do for Argentina, I only care about what he does in a Tottenham shirt. It does seem like Real Betis are interested in him. They look likely to lose Fekir and they probably see Lo Celso as a direct replacement.

“I’m sure he would excel there, I just don’t think the Premier League is suited for him. Therefore, the best possible thing would be to get him out of the club. Once he leaves, his time will be viewed in the same way as Tanguy Ndombele’s time at the club – a complete disaster.”

Lo Celso does not feature prominently in Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, with just one year left on his contract in North London, it is advisable to sell the midfielder now. Extending Lo Celso’s contract is highly improbable. Consequently, if Lo Celso is not transferred this summer, there is a significant risk of losing him on a free transfer, which would be highly detrimental given the substantial investment in the player. Fortunately for Tottenham, there is interest from other clubs in securing his services.

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis are both vying to acquire Giovani Lo Celso. Betis is eager to re-sign Lo Celso and has already initiated contact with the Argentine midfielder. To facilitate Lo Celso’s potential return, Betis must first make room in their squad, with Nabil Fekir expected to depart the club.

Giovani Lo Selso was signed from Real Betis under manager Mauricio Pochettino in 2019 for a staggering fee of £55m. Tottenham should sell Giovani Lo Celso primarily due to his inconsistent performances and injury woes since joining the club. Despite flashes of talent, the Argentine midfielder has struggled to maintain a regular starting role or string together impactful performances over extended periods. This inconsistency has disrupted Tottenham’s midfield stability, affecting their ability to control games effectively.

Financially, offloading Lo Celso could free up significant funds that could be reinvested in positions of greater need, such as a reliable striker or strengthening the defense. His departure would also alleviate wage bill pressures, potentially allowing Tottenham to pursue other transfer targets more aggressively.

Furthermore, a move away from Tottenham could benefit Lo Celso personally by providing him with a fresh start and the opportunity to rediscover his form in a different league or environment, such as a return to Spain where he previously excelled. Overall, selling Lo Celso could enable Tottenham to streamline their squad and improve team balance, both on and off the pitch.
