Tottenham captain Son Heung-min is one of the top ten forwards in the world
Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has secured a spot in ESPN’s FC 100 players, The South Korean international placed him 10th in the forwards category. The FC 100 list features the world’s top 100 soccer players, with selections divided into 10 goalkeepers, 30 defenders, 30 midfielders and 30 forwards.
It has been a challenging season for the Spurs, they could only finish in eighth position in the 2022/23 league which also resulted in losing their chance to participate in any of the European tournaments. The club appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach after approaching many gaffers. Tottenham’s main concern was losing the club’s all-time top scorer, Harry Kane. Kane joined the German club Bayern Munich last summer after spending 14 years with the club.
Postecoglou and Spurs players had a big mission to complete, after the arrival of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, captain Hugo Lloris lost his spot in the starting eleven. The manager gave the captain’s armband to Sonny, who led the team for the rest of the campaign.
Sonny was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £22m in a five-year contract. The Korean winger has played 408 games and contributed 120 goals and 62 assists in his Spurs career. From his debut season until now, he has been a crucial player in the forward line for the North Londoners. The pace and calmness of the winger made him famous around the football world.
Son has experience leading his national side for some years, so Postecoglou didn’t go for another option to give the armband. Under his leadership, Tottenham finished fifth in the league and secured a spot in the Europa League. Son also featured as a striker in some matches by the Aussie gaffer, his versatility in the front line makes him more useful in the club.
“One of the most steadily successful players and best finishers in the Premier League kept right on going at age 31 this season.”
