Report claims Tottenham are close to accepting £17m for their Brazilian defender
As reported by Italian outlet Gazzetta, AC Milan are close to agreeing on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender, Emerson Royal. The 25-year-old has struggled to find his form and consistent minutes under Ange Postecoglou. Last season, the Brazilian only made 24 appearances.
With the situation unlikely to change next season, Royal has been desperate for a move and AC Milan has been knocking on the Spurs’ door for quite some time now. However, if the reports are to be believed the Lilywhites might be ready to accept a figure close to £17m.
Tottenham paid a sum of £26m to FC Barcelona for the Brazilian defender. So a figure close to £20m would be fitting for him now that he has failed to make any impact during his time with the Spurs. Emerson is in desperate need of a change in scenery and one could be arriving soon.
If Royal can find his form he can be a solid defender on any team in the world. So, AC Milan have an interesting option on their hand. The cheap price they will pay for the Brazilian might end up being a bargain or it may end up being an absolute waste if Royal makes nothing of himself.
The Brazilian defender has made 101 appearances for Tottenham. Most of his time has been spent playing down the right flank as an RB. However, his contribution in the final third has always left a lot to be desired. Over the last three years, Royal has only recorded four goals and two assists for the team.
The 25-year-old is about to take on a new challenge. If he fails to stand up to this one, this could be the last time that Emerson even gets the opportunity to find a new challenge.
