Sky Sports journalist casts doubt on Toney transfer rumours
Tottenham Hotspur FC have been looking at a potential deal to bring Brentford striker Ivan Toney to White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window. Reports of late suggest that the club has already agreed to personal terms with the England international and has made a £40 million bid for his services.
These reports acknowledged Spurs initial bid while stating that the Bees are holding out for £65 million but might settle for a fee close to £55 million for their priced asset. Amid the reports of a nearing Tottenham move, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has publicly repudiated these rumours. Replying through his official handle on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Sky pundit stated, “Not remotely true,” surrounding the reports, effectively confusing the story.
Could Toney still land at Tottenham?
Despite the rumours of late, followed by the quashing of them, Toney can realistically move to White Hart Lane this summer. He is available for a not-too-hefty price tag, especially considering his quality and Premier League experience. Moreover, Toney recently changed his agents to CAA Base, an agency that has deep ties with the Spurs.
Jonathan Barnett, who is a significant presence at CAA Base, already has an established relationship with Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy. This can help facilitate any future negotiations between all the parties for a potential deal.
His contract is entering its final year with Brentford, and Tottenham will be looking to take advantage of the situation to bring him to the N17. Ivan Toney has been an impressive goal-scoring outlet for his current employers for a while now, and his displays have made him one of the most sought-after strikers in the league.
