Rayan Cherki to N17? Spurs can snatch Lyon starlet amid PSG interest
Tottenham Hotspur FC have expressed interest in bringing Olympique Lyon’s standout talent, Rayan Cherki, to North London this summer (h/t Get Football News France).
The Lilywhites are looking to sign a midfielder in the off-season as Ange Postecoglou looks to add quality and depth to the squad in the off-season. With the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovanni Lo Celso likely to bid adieu to White Hart Lane, this opens up space in the club’s roster to acquire a new midfielder who can contribute effectively to Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the upcoming season.
French fancy at White Hart Lane
The speculations of late have suggested that Tottenham have been looking at the 20-year-old talent whose contract at Groupama Stadium runs out next season, making this the only opportunity for Lyon to redeem a reasonable fee for his services. Alongside Spurs, their Premier League rivals Liverpool have also expressed interest in landing the 2003-born talent.
Despite interest from the English top-tier, it is French side Paris Saint-Germain who are keen on securing another player from Olympique Lyonnais for the second successive season. PSG made a €15 million plus an additional €3 million in bonuses bid for the 20-year-old, per L’Equipe, indicating their serious intent to strengthen their squad with Lyon’s promising young talent. However, the first bid was rejected as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano indicated that PSG manager Luis Enrique had a direct call with the player.
Lyon wants a substantial sell-on clause to sell their star talent. Tottenham can take advantage of the situation and flex their financial muscles if they are keen on securing Cherki’s signatures, especially considering his availability at a cut-price deal.
