Fitness concerns cloud Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Alexander Isak
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a marquee striker in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners have been linked with a move for multiple names from across Europe in the build-up to the off-season; however, the Lilywhites may be looking within the Premier League as they consider signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, per The Athletic.
The Swedish international has done exceptionally well since his move to St. James Park, and his reputation has compounded over the past few summers. summers. Although he does have a bit of injury concern, which could keep Spurs from pursuing his signature. The 24-year-old has suffered two groin injuries in the 2023–24 season, and the North Londoners would be looking away from signing another injury-prone player to their ranks.
Ange and Tottenham already suffered the consequences of consistent Richarlision injuries in the previous campaign, and they would not be looking for a repeat scenario with Iask.
High risk, high reward?
Fitness expert Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, insists that groin problems should not be a concern for the former Dortmund striker to clear his medical at White Hart Lane. Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said:
“He had a groin injury on a couple of occasions this past season, which suggests that there could be a problem. Muscular injuries in-season can be particularly difficult to get out of, especially in high-stress areas like the groin or adductors.
“That stress may be even higher for Isak, who relies on changes of pace and direction, which load those areas more. That being said, he had a very good close to the season, which may mean he is over these problems and there shouldn’t be issues with him clearing his medical.“
Isak has scored 31 goals in 52 games for Newcastle United and has shown calmness in high-pressure situations, and his versatility would fit perfectly under Ange’s playing style. However, per The Mirror, Newcastle have put a mammoth £150 million price tag on the Sweden international, which is too hefty for Spurs to consider.
