Tottenham Hotspur FC is vying for a potential deal to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie in the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider’s senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke.

The North Londoners are actively searching for a midfielder as they are set to lose Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso, creating space for new arrivals on the Spurs roster. While the club has been linked with a few midfielders from across Europe, the interest in the USMNT midfielder comes as a surprise given his established links with Aston Villa.

McKennie was part of a complicated swap deal that would have seen Douglas Luiz sign for Juventus. However, the 25-year-old has priced himself out of that deal, which would have taken him to Villa Park. As a result, the North Londoners are now leading the chase to secure his signature.

The club has held talks with the Turin-based side over a possible £15 million deal to sign the former Leeds United midfielder, whose contract at La Vecchia Signora is set to expire in June 2025. However, other Premier League clubs are expected to join the race for the 25-year-old, who is available on a cut-price deal due to his contract situation with his current employers.

McKennie has previous experience in the English top tier, although his stint was somewhat underwhelming, with only one assist in 19 Premier League outings. However, he found his form after returning to Serie A last summer, where he started in 33 of his 38 appearances and contributed a remarkable 10 assists. This resurgence highlights McKennie’s potential to be a valuable asset for Tottenham as they look to bolster their midfield options.

Tottenham are linked with several midfielders from around Europe, and there is something about McKennie that doesn’t quite fit the bill for starting in a big six Premier League side. We will see if Daniel Levy and his team share this sentiment in the upcoming weeks.
