Wenham cautious on £65m Solanke fee despite recent goals
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with multiple strikers as the North Londoners look to sign marquee number nine this summer, and Bournemouth ace Dominic Solanke is among the players linked with a move to the N17.
John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, suggests that the club could offer £40 million to secure the 26-year-old’s services and doesn’t believe that the former Liverpool ace is worth more than the aforementioned sum.
£65m too steep?
Solanke has a £65 million release clause in his current contract, which can only be activated by a few elite clubs, per The Sun. However, Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, says that he cannot see the North Londoners paying that kind of money. Wenham said:
“I don’t think he is worth that because he has only been performing at this level for one season. Before that his goals were few and far between. However, I have always liked Solanke. He is homegrown and he can play as a central striker which addresses a key issue in the squad for us. However, £65million is too much. I could see Tottenham making an offer of around £40million to sign him.”
The 26-year-old has been in top-notch form in front of goal in the recently concluded season. Solanke netted 19 goals in the English top tier last season; however, he has only scored ten goals in 96 Premier League appearances before the 2023–24 season.
His form over just one season doesn’t warrant the associated fees, and a £40 million deal seems more in the range of a fair fee for his services, especially because Tottenham could land Ivan Toney for a sum not very far from that figure.

While Solanke is a very talented striker with exceptional abilities, Spurs would be wary of his goal-scoring history and may opt for a more proven option.
