Pre-season chance for Parrott? Robinson backs Irishman to impress Spurs
There are a lot of talks circulating about Tottenham Hotspur academy forward Troy Parrott, and former Lilywhites goalkeeper Paul Robinson suggests that the 22-year-old will be given an opportunity to prove his high-scoring credentials.
The Irish striker spent the 2023–24 season away from White Hart Lane as he impressed for Eredivisie side Excelsior Rotterdam on loan. He concluded the season with a 17-goal tally in 32 appearances.
With only four senior appearances at N17 under his belt, the Hotspur Way graduate is predicted to get an opportunity to showcase his potential to Ange Postecoglou and earn a stay at the club.
Homegrown hope?
Paul Robinson, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, acknowledged the exceptional season that Troy Parrott has enjoyed on loan and expects Ange to hand the 22-year-old an opportunity to impress in the pre-season. Robinson said:
“He had a great season on loan. It’ll be interesting to see what pre-season tells us, though that won’t get underway for a while due to the Euro 2024 players not coming back.”
“I think he’ll come back into the Tottenham set-up a lot earlier than the other players and should be given an opportunity during pre-season games. It’s up to him to hit the ground running.”
“The manager will have perceived ideas of what he wants and what he expects of him, but it’s up to the player to come back in pre-season and take his opportunity while players are away. I think Postecoglou will be open-minded about his future because he’ll know what he did on loan last season.”
“He’ll also know the quality of the player, so I don’t think there will be any pre-emptive decisions made about him just yet ahead of next season.”
