European giants enter race for Real Madrid linked Tottenham defender

Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero expected to start vs Ipswich Town in the Premier League clash this weekend.

European heavyweights join Real Madrid in pursuit of Tottenham defender Romero

According to the Tottenham News, PSG are one of four European teams that have joined the race with Real Madrid to acquire the signature of Tottenham’s defender Cristian Romero.

Juventus, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid are also said to be keeping tabs on the 26-year-old, but negotiating with Spurs will be difficult. Although Los Blancos won the UEFA Champions League and La Liga the previous season, they struggled due to a lack of depth in the defence. Carlo Ancelotti did not have Eder Militao or David Alaba for almost the entire season. They competed the entire season with Antonio Rudiger, Nacho and Aurelien Tchouameni at the back.

Ange Postecoglou intends to keep the centre-back in his squad next season and is aiming to improve his defensive alternatives rather than lose one of his key players this summer.

Romero has played 96 times for Tottenham thus far, scoring six goals and providing one assist in that time.

He is currently competing at the Copa America with Argentina, where he played 90 minutes on match-day one in Group A as the defending champions beat Canada 2-0

However, it appears that they have suffered a setback in their chase, as the player is content to remain at Tottenham. It would take an amazing deal for Daniel Levy to consider moving one of his finest players, and even then, he is unlikely to accept it.

Despite the interest in his services, Romero is presently focused on doing well for Argentina in the Copa America before returning to Ange Postecoglou’s club for the 2024/25 season.
