Rio Ferdinand praises Tottenham defensive target Marc Guehi for stellar Euro 2024 performances
Former Manchester United ace and television pundit Rio Ferdinand has praised Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
On his YouTube channel, Ferdinand emphasised Guehi’s effect as England’s outstanding defender at Euro 2024, stating:
“There’s all these players that we still don’t know if they’re going to be good enough, but they’re here. Even Guehi, Guehi’s been brilliant, been our best defender, but we didn’t know really, did we, what he was going to be like because he doesn’t get a good amount of time to play and have minutes.”
The 23-year-old Guehi, whose Crystal Palace contract runs until June 2026, has developed into an important player for both his club and nation.
His excellent performances have piqued the interest of numerous big teams, including Tottenham. Guehi’s standout moment came during England’s 1-0 win against Serbia in their first group game.
In that match, Guehi completed 51 of 53 passes, achieving a 96% accuracy rate. Furthermore, he won all of his ground duels, made four recoveries, and provided two clearances, demonstrating his defensive abilities.
His impressive streak continued in England’s 1-1 draw with Denmark, despite the team’s generally lacklustre effort. Guehi’s dependability at the back hasn’t gone unnoticed, solidifying his reputation as a reliable and skilled defender.
Guehi’s international success follows his impressive performance with Crystal Palace last season.
Despite a knee injury that kept him out for over three months, he made 25 Premier League appearances, starting 23 of them and captaining the club on numerous occasions.
His leadership and defensive abilities have made him an invaluable addition to Palace. Guehi’s resilience and consistent performances have not only solidified his role at Crystal Palace but also enhanced his reputation on the international stage, making him a sought-after player for top clubs.
