Royal out, Vanderson in? Tottenham eye Monaco full-back this summer
Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been linked with a potential exit from White Hart Lane this summer, and the North Londoners are looking at AS Monaco’s Brazilian full-back Vanderson as a replacement. Emerson Royal appears to be AC Milan-bound, prompting Spurs to seek alternatives to fill his position.
The Lilywhites are prioritizing bolstering their attacking line this summer while also ensuring they have commendable depth at the back. According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno (as relayed by SportWitness), they are keen on signing the South American ace who has impressed with his dazzling performances in the French league.
However, Spurs will need to pay a substantial fee for his signing, as Vanderson’s current employers are asking for €30 million for the 23-year-old’s services. Acquiring him would enhance Tottenham’s defensive options and align with their strategy of building a strong, versatile squad for the upcoming season.
€30m gamble?
Vanderson impressed at Brazilian side Grêmio before leaving his home country for Monaco in the winter window of 2022. Since then, he has established himself as the first choice in his position at Louis II Stadium, consistently producing excellent performances that showcase his technical prowess and defensive solidity.
Despite an injury-ridden 2023–24 season, Vanderson still managed four goal contributions in 23 appearances for Adi Hütter’s side. His resilience and ability to perform even through setbacks have made him a valuable asset for Monaco.
With a contract at Monaco until 2028, several elite clubs are vying for his signature this summer. Tottenham have expressed strong interest in the 23-year-old, alongside Serie A giants Napoli. However, Napoli may be hesitant to enter a financial battle with Spurs, who appear determined to secure Vanderson as a key addition to their squad.
