Transfer of Tottenham Hotspur star Djed Spence to Genoa is under turmoil
The report from Calcio Genoa states that the Spurs are looking for just under €10m for the 23-year-old. However, the Serie A side is unwilling to meet the demands made by Tottenham.
According to Italian outlet Calcio Genoa, Tottenham defender Djed Spence’s move to Serie A side Genoa has hit a snag. The 23-year-old has spent the last six months on loan with Genoa, making 16 appearances and impressing with his solid performances.
Despite his improved form during his time with Genoa, the Italian club are unwilling to pay the price set by Tottenham for Spence. Spurs are reportedly seeking just under €10 million for the 23-year-old defender. However, Genoa is reluctant to meet these demands.
Much was expected of Spence when he arrived at Hotspur Way in 2022 from Middlesbrough. Unfortunately, the move has not turned out as we expected and the time is now ripe to cut our losses. Should the move to Genoa move break down, it remains to be seen if other clubs will join the fray.
If anything, another loan spell seems to be a more feasible option for Djed Spence. He has already failed to get any kind of playing time under Ange Postecoglou, and the situation is unlikely to change next season either.
If Spence wants to get regular playing time, he will need to get away from Tottenham. However, a good performance during pre-season might help change the public’s opinion of him and possibly even Postecoglou’s assessment.
With Tottenham unwilling to budge from their asking price, the clock is now ticking for Djed Spence. Unless he can help the club find a quicker resolution, another loan spell seems to be in the books for him next season.
