Dan Bardell suggests a name amidst Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a marquee number nine

Tottenham Hotspur are actively seeking a marquee number nine in the summer transfer window, with several strikers on their radar. Among the potential targets, Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell has highlighted a player who could “instantly” improve Ange Postecoglou’s squad. This addition is seen as crucial for Spurs as they aim to bolster their attacking options.

One prominent name linked with Tottenham is Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is approaching the final twelve months of his contract at Kew Bridge. The North London club has shown significant interest in the England international, who has been a standout performer in the Premier League. His potential exit from Brentford has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Spurs, who are keen to secure his services.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have already had a bid rejected for the 28-year-old striker. However, negotiations seem promising as it is believed that Spurs have reached an agreement on personal terms with Toney. The former Newcastle United ace’s arrival could provide the firepower Tottenham needs to compete at the highest level, making this a crucial transfer for the club.

All roads lead to Toney?

Tottenham are looking to sign Ivan Toney this summer.

Dan Bardell suggests that Ange Postecoglou & Co. will be competing with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham to sign Toney this summer. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Dan said:

It feels like Tottenham will be battling Chelsea and West Ham for him this summer. Spurs are the only one out of those who don’t have a recognized center forward, so he could be a good fit. He has a year left on his contract and seems keen to leave; everyone knows that.

It would depend on what Brentford wants; they may look at it, keep him for a year, and let him go on a free. If Spurs can stomach the fee they could demand, they should go for it, as he would instantly make their squad better for a busy new season.

Tottenham found themselves struggling in front of goal owing to a lack of a marquee number nine last season, and the Australian gaffer would want to ensure they bolster their attacking firepower to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
