BBC Pundit tips Tottenham to make a move for Jarrad Branthwaite this summer
BBC pundit Alan Hutton suggests that Everton’s defender Jarrad Branthwaite could be signed as he would suit the Tottenham back line, according to reports from Football Insider.
Hutton acknowledges that the England one-cap defender has what it takes to step in and “fill the void” that would be left in the core of Postecoglou’s defence, even though he doesn’t want Romero to leave North London this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring their pursuit of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite during this summer transfer window, following hurdles in Manchester United’s chase of his services
He said,
“He did really well last season, and there are talks [Cristian] Romero could be on the move, so there’s a few things in the pipeline that might lead towards them going for someone like [Branthwaite], and him filling that void at centre-half. I have heard there could be a hijack there, from people I speak to at the club.”
The pundit further believes that the players coming in aren’t quite up to that quality in case the starting back four gets hurt or is absent for an extended period of time.
Branthwaite had a fantastic 2023–24 season, making 41 appearances in all competitions as the Toffees finished 15th in the Premier League and easily avoided relegation.
After conceding 61 goals the previous summer, Ange Postecoglou will probably look to bolster his defence during the transfer window, and Branthwaite is one of the top central defensive possibilities available.
