Tottenham are unlikely to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham has expressed his delight in the club withdrawing from the race to sign Brentford star striker Ivan Toney. The England international was one of the top priorities for the North London club but things have gone quiet in recent weeks.
After Harry Kane left the club almost a year ago, it became evident that manager Ange would target a striker in the summer transfer window. Spurs lacked a quality striker in the front line in the last season. Spurs’ goal-scoring duty was completed by Son and other midfielders, whereas strikers like Richarlison and Werner failed to fire consistently in the front line. Following the conclusion of the Premier League season, speculations regarding the Bees striker and Spurs were present.
Tottenham also considered Toney as one of the prime targets in the summer transfer, but Spurs are unlikely to sign the 28-year-old striker from Brentford. Ange Postecoglou is currently looking for some young prodigies for the number nine position. Toney has been having impressive performances in the Premier League for the past few years, He also contributed two assists and four goals following his return to the club after suspension for breaking betting regulations in the last campaign.
Ange’s actions at the club indicate he is setting up the team for long-term success. It was evident from the signing of Guglielmo Vicario last summer. Ange would focus on the young players in the transfer market as they help the club in the long run. The futuristic move by the manager is backed by journalist Wenham.
“He is not a player that I am looking for the club to sign. Brentford were waiting patiently for him to come back, and he scored just four league goals between January and May. It’s just not enough of an output. I don’t think he’s better than Richarlison and I therefore don’t think he is an improvement on what we have already got. As a result, I was delighted to see an end put to those links.”
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose expressed his view through Tottenham Hotspur News. Toney who is currently in his prime form of his career can score more goals for the North London club with his experience in the league.
Postecoglou can also find a better young player for the position in the transfer market, also he could add some players to bolster the front line of Spurs. However, it’s doubtful if the young strikers can score goals in a competition like the Premier League. Ange may find difficulties if he only relies on the young heads. But for sure, the club can create a powerful attacking line in the coming years with the plan.
