Everton reach agreement with Tottenham over terms of Dele Alli transfer
According to the Mirror, Everton have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over the terms of the transfer that took Dele Alli to Merseyside from the N17.
The 28-year-old English international joined Everton on a free transfer with clauses in his contract subject to performance-related targets and contract renewal. Whilst Alli hasn’t met those performance targets yet, his contract with the Merseyside club is up.
The Toffees wanted to offer him a new contract but did not want to pay the money they owed to Spurs. The North London club have given Everton what they want and will not earn any money if the renewal goes ahead.
Once regarded by Mauricio Pochettino as ‘one of the very best in Europe’, the ex-wonderkid has seen his career undergo a steep downfall ever since the Argentinian manager left the North London club.
His successor, Jose Mourinho used Alli initially before the player lost the manager’s trust in him. Since then, it’s been difficult for the English attacking midfielder to rediscover the kind of ability that made him one of the most promising youngsters in Europe.
There was a time back during his early days at N17 when Dele Alli had the kind of acclaim Jude Bellingham is currently enjoying in the English fan circle. No one would have envisioned the downfall that has since followed.
Now that Spurs have budged in their negotiations and agreed to forego the contract clause, the Toffees are likely to be handing him a new league despite the fact that he has hardly played football in the last 12 months.
Sean Dyche, despite showing an inclination to trust him has not been able to use the player’s services due to a groin injury that has kept Dele Alli out of action. He does seem close to returning to action.
