Tottenham Hotspur confirm the departure of Troy Parrott to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the sale of talented striker Troy Parrott to Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.
Troy Parrott departs Tottenham Hotspur after seven years, having arrived in north London from as a youngster from Belvedere. He rose through the academy but managed only four first-team appearances, failing to establish himself in the senior side. The striker spent the majority of his time away from Tottenham on loan spells at Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston North End and Excelsior Rotterdam.
Having excelled on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam last season, where he scored 17 goals in 32 games in all competitions, AZ Alkmaar have pounced on the opportunity to sign Parrott permanently from Tottenham. The Dublin-born star has penned a five-year contract with AZ Alkmaar until the summer of 2029.
Taking to their official X account, Tottenham stated: “We have reached agreement with Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar for the permanent transfer of Troy Parrott.”
“Wishing you all the best for the future, Troy!”
Parrott had entered the final year of his contract at Spurs, and with the first-team squad featuring stars such as Son Heung-min and Richarlison, he would have struggled for game time under our gaffer Ange Postecoglou. Thus, he may have pushed for a permanent transfer away from Tottenham and our club cashed him in.
In the latest episode of the podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, reputed Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold revealed special praise for Parrott, claiming that the striker during his teenage years was described by coaches within the club as being the “best finisher”.
The Republic of Ireland international did prove himself to be the best finisher by far at Excelsior Rotterdam. However, his goals weren’t enough to help Excelsior Rotterdam maintain their top-flight status in the Netherlands as they finished 16th in the table and were relegated following a play-off loss to NAC Breda.
Parrott’s performances and goals for the Rotterdam-based outfit didn’t go unnoticed and AZ Alkmaar acted swiftly by sealing his signature. As Alkmaar will be playing in the Europa Conference League, the 22-year-old will get an opportunity to showcase his ability in the continental competition.

After failing to make his name at Spurs, Parrott will be relieved to have the opportunity to play regular first-team football for Alkmaar. He would been tired of going out on loan season after season, and following a strong season in the Netherlands, there was no way the 22-year-old would have accepted warming the benches at our club.
With that said, we wish Parrott all the best for his future!
