Tottenham willing to let Sergio Reguilon leave on a bargain transfer
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are willing to let Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon leave on a bargain transfer, offering him out for just £10m despite signing him for £32m back in 2020 from Real Madrid.
Back then, the Spanish youngster was highly regarded as one of the promising left-backs in world football and seemed like he would conquer the Premier League in the coming seasons. The reality cannot be further off though.
Injuries, inconsistencies and a lack of defensive awareness has meant that Reguilon has not become the player one imagined him to be. His attacking play is still very good, but his defensive shortcomings have rendered him rather ineffective in the Premier League.
Spurs have sent the player out on a few loan spells so far. He spent a season at Atletico Madrid which was largely unsuccessful, but his performances for Manchester United and Brentford were very good.
Understandably, the Red Devils want to sign the 27-year-old and could snap him up for around £10m. Just entering the prime years of his career, this transfer could make or break what people remember Reguilon as.
One can still remember Reguilon as a young, attacking left-back who broke through the Real Madrid system and displaced Marcelo as the first choice for the Spanish giants. Albeit briefly, he was one of the best in the league in his position.
Despite having a very attack-minded system in practice at the N17, Ange Postecoglou hasn’t fancied giving the Spaniard a chance until now and that isn’t going to change if the transfer links are to be believed.
Better something than nothing. Tottenham want to make a clean break this summer and move deadwood on and Reguilon is one of those players. They’d rather take the £10m and let him leave.
