Tottenham Hotspur set to miss out on Nottingham Forest-bound Nikola Milenkovic
According to the Telegraph, Nottingham Forest are closing in on a move to sign talented centre-back Nikola Milenkovic from Serie A side Fiorentina, beating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs have been credited with interest in the 26-year-old in the recent past but never seemed to be close to making a move for him. In what now seems to be a new tactic deployed by many agents of players in the Serie A, mentioning the North London club’s name in the Premier League seems to bring a sense of believability.
This has to do with the fact that Tottenham have an excellent scouting range in the Italian top flight and have signed many of their recent players for the Serie A. Much of this has to do with our ex-sporting director, Fabio Paratici.
Milenkovic has earned himself a reputation for being one of the best defenders in the Serie A which is quite a credit to earn in that particular league. He has been one of the standout performers for Fiorentina.
A no-nonsense centre-back like most Italian defenders of yore, Milenkovic has been likened to legendary centre-back Vidic for his style of play. It’s quite telling to earn such a comparison so early in his career.
Spurs are looking to bring in an able fourth centre-back to the squad to support the existing trio of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin. The style of Milenkovic would have been the perfect complement to the trio.
However, the player seems to be on his way to Nottingham Forest. Nuno Espirito Santos, who incidentally is an ex-Spurs manager many seem to forget about (not surprisingly) wants to bring the player to England for a fee of around £13m.
Although Tottenham could have been more proactive in pursuing him, perhaps they had other targets on their mind. The fact that they also have Ben Davies in the squad might put the pursuit of a new centre-back on the back burner.

Huge decisions await Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham this summer on which position they choose to reinforce as a priority. Nikola Milenkovic is unlikely to wear a Tottenham shirt in the near future but has a promising career ahead of him which we must keep track of.
