Tottenham set to make post-Euros push for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher
Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a post-Euros push for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher who they believe can ‘offer leadership’ to the squad.
Leadership is not a quality often associated with a player who is just 24 years old. However, there are some players who are born leaders in the sport. For example, someone like Gavi despite still being a teenager is considered a leader in both the Barcelona and Spain dressing rooms.
Gallagher’s future at Chelsea is far from certain but his involvement in the Euros has somewhat silenced talks in recent weeks. The player did not cover himself in glory with his performances for Southgate’s team, losing his place in the team to Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo.
The Euro 2024 runner-up will now return to Chelsea and look to sort his future out. Gallagher already captained the Blues many times last season in the absences of Reece James and Ben Chilwell and seems to have a personality about him.
Not the most gifted midfielder on the ball, Gallagher more than makes up for his shortcomings with his passion for the game. A tireless midfielder who would never stop running in a game, pairing him alongside a more creative presence like Maddison could bring the best out of both players.
Speaking about Tottenham’s pursuit of the 24-year-old, Ben Jacobs hinted at a push by the North London club
“This is a post-Euros thing. The situation is exactly the same. Tottenham like Gallagher and feel they could still add another midfielder, more so if Hojbjerg goes which is the expectation. Gallagher is someone they feel can offer leadership, be a positive dressing room influence and he’s versatile.”
Ange Postecoglou has shown an immense trust in youth during his time as Tottenham manager. To be fair to Gallagher, considering the amount of top-flight experience he has, it might be wrong to categorize him as a youth despite his age.
With his future at Chelsea being so turbulent, an offer from Tottenham ( a suitable one at that) could prompt the West London club to take the money for the player, as it would reflect as pure profit on their books.
