Tottenham still pursuing a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey
According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are still pursuing a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey whose career seems to have stalled in recent seasons.
Ramsey exploded onto the scene as a young 20-year-old under then-Aston Villa manager Steven Gerard who made the player a guaranteed starter for his team. The Liverpool legend showed immense trust in the player’s abilities.
However, the 23-year-old slowly yet surely lost his starting place in Unai Emery’s side. It’s not to say that his career has stalled but it hasn’t progressed at the meteoric rate one would have anticipated back then.
Once regarded as ‘undroppable’ by Steven Gerard, Ramsey at a young age has experienced hardships in football. As they say though, ‘what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger’. That’s exactly what the 23-year-old must remember.
Despite a sharp fall in stocks, the interest in the young Englishman refuses to go away with Tottenham persistent about signing him. Ange Postecoglou believes he can bring the best out of the youngster’s obvious potential.
Midfield is an area at Tottenham that fails to fill us with much confidence. Despite having the likes of James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg amongst others, the midfield seems to be lacking a bit of exuberance.
The exuberance is exactly what Jacob Ramsey can bring to the table, along with his footballing ability of course. The 23-year-old can be the fresh energy that the midfield is craving and can carve a path out for his career.
It’s easy to see Ramsey fit like a glove in Postecoglou’s system. He can play in multiple positions, another quality that the Australian tactician loves. All this points towards him being a great signing for the club.

£50m seems a tad high for Ramsey at the moment. If Spurs can negotiate a slightly lower fee, this would be a decade-defining signing for the club. Let’s hope we can get it done.
