Blues demand top dollar for Gallagher
Tottenham Hotspur have long established links with a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, as the North Londoners are looking at the England international as a prime target coming into the summer transfer window. The Lilywhites have not given up on the possibility of landing his signature just yet.
Spurs have not moved to sign the 24-year-old yet, as the Cobham graduate camp did not want to distract him from the recently concluded EURO 2024. There are expectations for something to happen as we conclude the European Championships.
Gallagher talks drag on as Spurs & Chelsea deadlocked over price
Chelsea are open to selling the former Derby star; however, they are quoting an excess of £50 million for his services. The Blues have pointed out the £55 million valuation that Manchester United paid for Mason Mount just twelve months ago.
The Lilywhites value the 24-year-old for £35 million, the same as they did last summer, per Ben Jacobs writing for GMS. Tottenham folked out £40 million to bring James Maddison to White Hart Lane, a figure they expected to pay for Conor Gallagher.
Atletico Madrid are tagged as Spurs’ main rivals for his signatures, as we can rule Aston Villa out owing to their recent acquisition of Amadou Onana.
Mauricio Pochettino called the 24-year-old “priceless,” but Spurs have a price in mind and they are not ready to budge beyond that.
We will see how this proceeds. Knowing Daniel Levy, he will hardly budge on the price or his valuation. And for Chelsea, they may want to sell him rather than go into a new season with the 24-year-old on the books as his contract at the Bridge runs down next summer and the West Londoners would risk losing him on a free transfer.
