Manchester United and Tottenham lock horns for Toney
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney as they look to complete one of the headline transfers of the ongoing summer transfer window.
Spurs have already made a radiant start to the transfer window after having already secured the deals of Archie Gray from Leeds United and Lucas Bergvall joining from Djurgarden, alongside the return of Timo Werner.
Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou are now targeting an addition to the forward line, with the England international linked with a move to White Hart Lane. The North Londoners have been linked with multiple strikers throughout the summer window, and their priorities upfront have changed over the past few weeks.
Spurs have been looking to bring that Premiership experience upfront, although they face competition from fellow English rivals to land his signature.
Preference for United throws spanner in Spurs’ works
What will come as a further blow to the North Londoners’ pursuit of Ivan Toney is that he has been telling his friends about his keenness to join Manchester United, per Football Insider.
He has been sharing similar sentiments with his English teammates while on national team duty of late.
On paper, signing for Tottenham looks more promising at the moment, especially considering the project that the Lilywhites have undertaken under Ange Postecoglou’s tutelage.
Moreover, Toney would essentially be the first-choice striker at Spurs, whereas he would be fighting with Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee for minutes at Old Trafford.
