Williams’ stellar Euros performance puts him out of Spurs’ reach
Tottenham Hotspur have been pursuing a move to bring Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams to White Hart Lane this summer transfer window.
Spurs have been eyeing reinforcements on the flanks this summer as Daniel Levy insists on giving Ange Postecoglou better players to sustain his process and progress with the North Londoners. John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, claims that the North Londoners would not be making a move for the EURO 2024 winner.
He believes that the 21-year-old has been “incredible” in the recently concluded European Championships in Germany. However, Wenham insists that his displays for Spain mean his level is beyond Tottenham’s reach. John Wenham’s comments come on the back of a Telegraph report vouching for Daniel Levy & Co. as potential buyers for the Athletic Bilbao forward.
Euro glory prices Williams out of Spurs’ league
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, John Wenham said:
“Williams had a fantastic Euro with Spain. Therefore, I think after the performances we’ve seen from him he is probably beyond Spurs’ reach now. Barcelona are clearly very interested in signing him, so I believe he will stay in Spain now. As a result, a transfer to Tottenham definitely looks off the table.”
Alongside Wenham’s comments, there also needs to be an understanding that Nico Williams’ wage ask is beyond what Levy and officials at N17 would be prepared to pay up. This realistically rules the North Londoners out of signing him.
Barcelona, at the moment, looks to be the frontrunner in the Nico Williams deal. However, we will have to see their financial situation to bolster their squad with the Spaniard.

For Spurs, they would need to focus on other potential incomings that are more related to their transfer and wage budget, complemented by the strategic goals under Ange Postecoglou. As of now, it seems unlikely that Williams will be a Tottenham player this summer.
