Tottenham eyeing a move for French midfielder Adrien Rabiot
According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for French midfielder Adrien Rabiot with the player now a free agent following his contract expiration with Juventus.
Rabiot is one of those strange players who continues to divide the fanbase even at his own club and country over his merit in the squad. On days, he looks like an excellent midfielder but he has failed to live up to the hype surrounding him when he was in PSG.
The 29-year-old is a regular in Didier Deschamps’ French setup but has often had questions surrounding him on whether he should merit a place in the extremely stacked Les Bleus midfield. He even played a significant role in the recently concluded Euros campaign.
Back when he was at PSG, Rabiot left the club as a free agent. At that time, he was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but ESPN revealed, through sources close to the player that the North London club was beneath him.
Life has come a full circle for the free-agent though, who now finds himself linked with a move to both Spurs and Arsenal. A proper box-to-box midfielder, Rabiot might not be the most gifted on the ball but he still has certain attributes that make him valuable.
Once bitten, twice shy?
Tottenham must not go for Adrien Rabiot. The club doesn’t need a player who thinks he is above their stature. It might have been in the past but it’s not a good reflection on Spurs if they try and sign the Frenchman.
Spurs have one of the most exciting projects in Europe and this has made the club suddenly become a prospective destination for footballers. The chance to work with Ange Postecoglou has tempted many a player and Rabiot isn’t an exception.
Rabiot is not the kind of profile our midfield needs though. We need someone who is more technical and has better ability on the ball. The Frenchman is not the answer to Tottenham’s midfield.
