Tottenham in talks to sign Lille’s Jonathan David
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a marquee striker in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners have been linked with a list of talented forwards, viz. Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez, Alexander Isak, and Jonathan David.
However, the Lilywhites are looking to fortify their interest in landing Jonathan David, as the North Londoners are in daily contact with the Canadian’s representatives as they plan a summer raid for the striker, per Football Insider.
Levy and Postecoglou chasing £25m deal for David
The 24-year-old has been linked with multiple Premier League clubs alongside Spurs, with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham named as potential suitors to bring the Lille striker to England. Alongside the English clubs, the Lilywhites will have to beat European clubs as well, including Italian giants AS Roma, the latest club to declare an interest in Lille’s number nine.
With many clubs lining up for his signatures, Lille president Olivier Létang admitted that David will likely bid adieu to the French club this summer. With only one year on his current contract at Pierre Mauroy Stadium, he could be available for as little as £25 million.
David has been a clinical presence at Lille upfront; he has scored 71 goals in the French top tier, alongside providing a further tally of 11 assists since moving to France from Belgian side Gent in 2020. Thierry Henry praised him for his ‘directness’ in front of goal.
With Chelsea and West Ham interested in his services, the North Londoners will have to move swiftly if they are to secure the 24-year-old’s signatures.
