Brentford star striker Ivan Toney is waiting for Tottenham Hotspur to make an offer
Tottenham Hotspur target Ivan Toney is considered one of the best strikers playing in the Premier League, thanks to his exploits for Brentford. The English number nine is exceptional for the Bees and arguably Thomas Frank’s most important player.
Having just returned from international duty with the Three Lions, Toney is preparing himself for the upcoming season. He is entering the final year of his contract at the GTech stadium and is widely expected to move this summer.
As per TalkSport, the 28-year-old English striker is currently waiting for an approach from Tottenham Hotspur. He has identified the North Londoners as his potential next destination and it makes a lot of sense.
Toney at Tottenham would be a match made in heaven. Spurs have been searching for a new number nine since the exit of club legend Harry Kane last summer to Bayern Munich. The Brentford man might be the perfect replacement.
Over the seasons in the Premier League, Toney has received plaudits for many of his performances but one of the biggest endorsements he got was from Man City manager Pep Guardiola who had this to say about the Englishman
“He is so dangerous. He’s a master to use his body for the second ball, good finishing, you can link with him – he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen [at that]. A few weeks ago. the goal we conceded [to him]. we defended not properly but he did it really well. He’s a real threat, he always has been.”
When Pep praises a player and says he is one of the best he has seen in certain aspects of the game, there is no reason to doubt the genius tactician. Postecoglou would love to coach a striker like Ivan Toney.
Last season, despite the Australian coach coming up with a system to play without a natural number nine, there were games when Spurs created truckloads of chances but lacked a clinical presence up front.
To avoid such situations, Tottenham must ensure they go into the new season with a clinical striker and Toney can be just that. He might not be as prolific as Harry Kane was but not many strikers around the world are as prolific as the Bayern man.
