Yago Santiago could depart Tottenham Hotspur this summer
Highly regarded Tottenham Hotspur youngster Yago Santiago could be set for a surprise departure from White Hart Lane this summer after what happened in the pre-season ahead of the upcoming campaign.
John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, suggests that the 21-year-old could be set for a Tottenham exit with multiple players ahead of the player in the pecking order at N17.
The player has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 17 Premier League 2 outings last season. However, as Wenham suggests, he could be looking to opt out of the club despite his bright form.
He was an unused substitute in the Lilywhites game against Hearts and was slotted in the U21s squad while the club were featuring in their next friendly (against QPR), and that could be the end of his time at Spurs.
Santiago’s time at Spurs over?
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“Santiago was an unused substitute against Hearts but played with the Under-21s against St. Albans instead of against QPR with the first-team.
“He is probably thinking all of his Under-21 teammates from last season, the likes of Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear, Tyrese Hall and Luca Gunter, are progressing with the first-team. Therefore, Santiago might be feeling slightly left out and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him seek a permanent exit.
“That might come as a shock to some supporters. However, he only has a year left on his contract, and quite a few players – including Mikey Moore – are ahead of him.”

While his teammates jetted off to Japan and South Korea for the pre-season games, he would have felt he deserved a similar opportunity. We will see how this materialises; he could possibly leave on loan to prove his point if he still sees a future at N17.
