Yago Santiago bids Spurs farewell on Instagram after Elche move
Yago Santiago took to Instagram earlier today to bid goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur after a five-year stint.
The young Spanish winger has completed a permanent move to LaLiga HyperMotion side Elche, which was also confirmed earlier today.
After the move’s announcement, the 21-year-old took to Instagram to send the following message to the club and their fanbase.
Born in Vigo, Santiago was part of local club Celta’s academy between 2016 and 2019 before moving to Hotspur Way, where he spent five years in the Spurs youth setup.
He was part of the senior Spurs squad last season, though he received no playing minutes under Ange Postecoglou.
Santiago does, however, boast an impressive youth record, having scored 22 goals and provided 18 assists in 117 appearances spread across Spurs’ U18, U19, and U21 sides.
Necessary measures
When Spurs Technical Director Johan Lange talks about making Spurs an attractive prospect for youngsters, this is what he means. Not every youth academy graduate will make it big right out the gates in their senior career, but it is important for support to be provided to those who are going to bloom late as well as those who might not make it pro at all.
Santiago here falls into the latter category. At 21, he needed to get to a club where he could get minutes in the senior team, and that has seen him take a step down to the Spanish second tier.
