Ange Postecoglou offers injury update on Tottenham star Destiny Udogie
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is busy overseeing pre-season preparations ahead of the new season but one player missing from his squad is last season’s surprise package, Destiny Udogie.
The Italian left-back has been out for a couple of months now after undergoing surgery which also saw him miss international duty with Italy for the Euros. It appears that the 21-year-old is still a short while away from returning.
Udogie has been on Tottenham’s books for a couple of seasons now but he joined the club only last summer, after spending a season on loan with Udinese. He quickly established himself as one of the best attacking left-backs in the league. Postecoglou even revealed that the Italian had ‘outstanding attributes’.
The Italian international made 30 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He missed the fag end of the season through injury, which he is still recovering from.
Postecoglou has now provided an update on Udogie, speaking to SpursPlay after the win against K-League All-Stars
“Hopefully Destiny comes back into it in the next few days, so that’s positive.”
Spurs fans would love nothing more than seeing Udogie back on the pitch and replicating the performances that made him an N17 favourite. The Italian himself must be dying to get back on the pitch.
As Tottenham continue pre-season preparations, Postecoglou awaits not just Udogie’s return but also those who have had an extended break following international commitments. A full-strength squad would give the Aussie tactician an idea of where they stand currently.
Of course, one would expect the club to also be working on transfer operations behind the scenes to bring in reinforcements in key positions. A striker must be considered utmost priority ahead of the new season.
