Postecoglou keen on Gallagher to bolster midfield
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in a midfielder on a priority this summer as the club lacks depth in the position, and Spurs have reportedly identified Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as a potential target in the ongoing window.
Ange Postecoglou has a dire need in the midfield, especially considering the fact that the club are set to lose Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp in this window. The aforementioned trio has been linked with a move away from Spurs, and their services would have to be replaced before going into next season.
Spurs confident of landing Gallagher due to London links
While the Lilywhites have been subject to links with the former Derby midfielder for over a year now, the club have made no serious approach to land his signatures as of now. However, that is about to change as Daniel Levy & Co. are gearing up to make an offer for the 24-year-old midfielder, per Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol.
The Sky journalist insists that the long-anticipated transfer could still possibly find its conclusion. He suggests that Chelsea are now braced for an approach from Spurs for the English international. Gallagher currently earns around £50,000 per week at Stamford Bridge.
This comes after reports suggesting that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid may make a €40m move for Gallagher this summer. The player has sounded out his family and friends to accommodate a potential move to the Spanish capital; however, Spurs are now set to flex their financial muscles.
Gallagher is set to come back from his delayed holidays owing to his participation in the European Championship with England. And the Sky journalist insists that there should be major developments in his potential future at the West Londoners once he is back from holidays.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, the pundit stated:
“Atletico Madrid are there for him, but I don’t think they’re offering enough. I’ve been told today that Chelsea are expecting Spurs to come in for him maybe in the next couple of days or the next few weeks. When he comes back from holiday, there could be some major developments.”
Gallagher played a pivotal role at Stamford Bridge last season, and he would be an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Spurs’ long-standing interest, complemented by the current project at White Hart Lane and the fact that he will not have to move houses, means that the North Londoners have an advantage in securing his signatures over Atletico.
