Tottenham make shock U-turn on decision over star with 'generally high IQ' who had just 900 minutes last season

Spurs change of heart on Skipp as Hojbjerg departs

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer; however, the club is said to have reversed their stance on his probable departure this summer, per Football Insider.

Skipp has been linked with a move away from N17 for some time now. The defensive midfielder is just a bits-and-parts player at the club at the moment, which has forced Spurs hands into a potential sale. The club has been open to offers for the Hotspur away academy graduate.

However, the club has made a massive U-turn on Skipp’s future, as they are now set to offer the midfielder a new contract at White Hart Lane and have the player continue at the club beyond the ongoing summer transfer window. Once praised for being a player having a ‘generally high IQ’, things have not turned out as expected for the academy star.

Spurs U-turn on Skipp sale

The 23-year-old joined Spurs academy set-up in 2013, and he has progressed in the club’s setup at some pace. He has been part of the senior setup at White Hart Lane since 2018, although he has not seen mighty opportunities coming his way at N17. Skipp made 24 outings last season; however, those aggregated into only 900 minutes of first-team action.

Since he was not an integral part of Ange’s midfield setup, Daniel Levy & Co. were willing to negotiate his departure as long as they could bring in a homegrown player to replace his services at the club.

Premier League side Leicester City expressed interest in landing Skipp this summer as the Foxes look to replace Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, they will now have to look elsewhere as the Spurs push to extend his contract.

Tottenham are now in advanced talks with Skipp over a new deal at N17. The officials at Spurs are keen to keep hold of the midfielder, with veteran Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaving the club this summer.

It looks like someone at Tottenham is unsure about the blueprint of the window and beyond. The club cannot keep changing these decisions and plans.

That being said, this could just be a news story to force Leicester City into closing a potential deal.
