Tottenham intensify efforts to sign highly-rated Wolves attacker Pedro Neto
According to a report from FootballTransfers, Tottenham Hotspur have ramped up their efforts to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto.
Pedro Neto has made a real name for himself in the Premier League with his performances for Wolves in recent years. The Portugal international, also coveted by the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, enjoyed another productive yet injury-curtailed season with Wolves that saw him register three goals and 11 assists in 24 appearances across all formats.
The aforementioned report adds Tottenham held further discussions on personal terms after previously engaging in talks with Neto, who pockets £50,000 per week at Molineux. The Lilywhites switching their focus to the Wolves winger comes off the back of stalled negotiations with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze. The two London clubs are yet to agree on a payment structure as well as the England international’s overall package.
Eze supposedly has a gentleman’s agreement with Crystal Palace that he would be allowed to leave this summer for a fee in the region of €70 million. However, Spurs are not ready to pay €70 million for the creative midfielder after holding talks with the Eagles.
With no clubs showing interest in meeting Palace’s demands thus far, it is becoming more and more likely that the 26-year-old will stay at Selhurst Park for another season.
Failure to find a breakthrough in talks for Eze means Spurs are now fully invested in bringing Neto to north London. Ange Postecoglou wants to build on an impressive first season at the club and the Wolves wide playmaker appears to be a significant part of his plans.
The prospect of Neto joining Spurs is quite exciting. The versatile Portuguese’s performances for Wolves over the years have been extremely promising, and his creativity, flair and pace on the wing would make Postecoglou’s side even more dangerous in attacks and counter-attacks. He can play on either flank, and as well as through the middle as a false 9 when required, and such kind of flexibility would make the 24-year-old a real asset for Spurs.
Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League table after being in the top-four picture for most of the last season, so Postecoglou and his coaching staff must walk the extra mile to qualify for the Champions League this time around. But for the club to challenge for a top-four finish as well as trophies, Daniel Levy must loosen his purse strings and get our gaffer the players he wants.
