Alejo Veliz has failed to make a big impact at Tottenham and could depart this summer
According to Argentinean journalist Uriel Lugt, Fiorentina are formulating an offer to sign Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz.
Fiorentina want to sign a striker before the August 30 transfer deadline. They have supposedly set their sights on the Tottenham prospect Alejo Veliz, who arrived in a £13m deal from Rosario Central last summer.
Failure to get game time in the first half of the 2023/24 season saw the young striker leave Spurs and join Sevilla on loan during the winter transfer window. The move turned out to be a disastrous one as he managed only six appearances in Seville colours.
Having returned to the club, it looks like Veliz is wanted by Fiorentina. On his X account, Uriel Lugt claims Fiorentina are expected to make a formal offer for Veliz in the coming days. They are planning to bid to sign the young striker permanently, with Spurs including a sizable sell-on clause in the deal.
“EXCL: #Fiorentina goes charging for Alejo Veliz,” Lugt tweeted.
“In the coming days there could be a formal offer to purchase a high % of the pass. Has a contract with #Tottenham until June 2029.”
Veliz didn’t get a lot of opportunities to show his potential at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou. He was sporadically used in the first half of the past campaign, where the striker’s highlight came in his first goal for the club in the 4-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium in December. Overall, he failed to make a big impact at Spurs.
A loan move to Sevilla didn’t work out at all for the Argentina under-20 international. Sevilla is slowly gaining a bad reputation for being a poor place for players to join on loan. Similar to Veliz, Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri also failed to get minutes under manager Quique Sanches Flores.
Clearly, Veliz’s main moto at the moment is getting regular playing opportunities which is unlikely to happen at Spurs due to the presence of experienced strikers such as Son Heung-min and Richarlison. Moreover, the club are looking to bring in a new striker before the transfer window slams shut, as confirmed by Postecoglou.

So, the best idea for the 20-year-old will be to leave Spurs if he is to enjoy consistent game time and continue his development. A potential move to Fiorentina could be appealing for Veliz. It all depends on what Fiorentina will offer for Veliz in the coming days and whether that proposal satisfies our club or not.
