Lilywhites loyal? Spence’s pre-season form could spark revival at Spurs
There is a vibe about a potential mass exodus at White Hart Lane, with Ange Postecoglou wanting to revamp his squad going into the next season, and Djed Spence was expected to be one of the first names out the door at White Hart Lane.
However, no move has materialized for the starlet just yet, despite advancements from Genoa, although the deal eventually fell through, and he has been around Hotspur. Way more than initially expected.
It could be a blessing in disguise, as Spence has been impressing in the pre-season, and he may actually have a future at N17.
The 2003-born right-back has spent the last couple of years on loan in France, Italy, and in the Championship. Everything pointed to a potential exit, but that may have changed. He could finally have a fair shot at making it at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Can Spence fulfil the early promise? Pre-season showcases potential at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou praised the right-back in abundance and suggested that Spence’s fate to continue at Hotspur Way is all down to the player now. He acknowledged that there is an opportunity here for things to work out for the England U21 international.
Speaking via. Football. London, the Spurs gaffer said:
“We got him back into pre-season, and we’re judging him on his merits. He’s a Tottenham player. To be fair to him, I think he’s been very, very good for us this pre-season, in terms of the way he’s trained and his general attitude. But a lot of these things are in the players’ hands themselves. They kind of decide their own future in many respects, and I think Djed is in that boat. I think there’s an opportunity for him here, for sure. Thinking about building a squad, he would definitely be somebody who could [contribute] with the attributes he has. I thought last year there was a chance, but it didn’t quite work out.”
