Tottenham are interested in signing Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke

According to Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Tottenham could offer players in a swap deal for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to sign a striker before the August 30 transfer deadline amid interest in Dominic Solanke. He has been compelled to use Dejan Kulusevski as a false 9 during the north London club’s pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea owing to Richarlison’s injury absence.

Solanke plundered 21 goals and four assists across all competitions for Bournemouth last season—his most productive campaign in top football. 19 alone came in the Premier League, as the Englishman managed to bring consistency to his game under the tutelage of highly-rated Andoni Iraola. As a result, he finished fourth in the Premier League last season’s top goalscoring ranks.

The 26-year-old, who earns £70,000 per week, has a £65m release clause in his contract at the Vitality Stadium, and the Cherries would want Solanke’s potential suitors to pay it fully to let him leave this summer. To facilitate a move for the centre-forward with such a high release clause, Alasdair Gold feels Spurs may opt for part-exchange offers to secure the Bournemouth star’s signature.

“Tottenham could potentially offer players in part-exchange for Solanke if they were to make a move for him with a number of players still looking for moves out of the club and others available on loan,” Gold stated.

It doesn’t need rocket science to understand why Ange Postecoglou is eyeing a striker in this transfer window. The Greek-Australian tactician wants to add more firepower to his squad to replace the goals of Harry Kane.

Kane left the club to join Bayern Munich a year ago but was not directly replaced at that time. After being creative in the first season by using different players centrally, Postecoglou wants to evolve by bringing in a traditional No.9 to spearhead his team’s attack.

Solanke is a reliable option, as evidenced by his goalscoring consistency in the last two years for Bournemouth. At 26, the former England youth international is coming into what is usually felt to be a footballer’s prime years, and while fits the profile of a striker in Postecoglou’s system, paying his release clause in one go could be a stumbling block.

Thus, it wouldn’t be a bad idea at all to offer a couple of our fringe players plus cash to sweeten the deal. While Bournemouth are expected to make it difficult for Spurs to lure Solanke away to north London, we must try the part-exchange option to get a deal done.
