Ivan Toney valuation rises as Brentford refuse to relent amidst Tottenham interest
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign a marquee striker this summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou prepares to take on his second season at White Hart Lane by storm.
The North Londoners have been linked with multiple strikers from around Europe, including Brentford ace Ivan Toney, as they look to fill the Harry Kane void in the front line.
He is walking into the final year of his contract with the Bees and, hence, would be available on a cheaper deal than initially expected. And Daniel Levy wanted to take advantage of such a situation to land the former Newcastle United ace.
However, Thomas Frank has recently been dealt tough cards as Brentford’s potential Toney replacement, Igor Thiago, suffered from an injury, which will force Brentford to hold firm on Toney and his valuation.
That is exactly what Brentford are doing; the Bees have no intention of selling the England international for cheap this summer, per Sky Sports.
Ivan Toney price soars after Brentford injury woes
Thiago was brought in by the Premier League side to eventually replace Toney, who has been linked with a Brentford exit for a while. However, he has now undergone surgery on his meniscus and is expected to be on the sidelines until the end of the year.
Sky suggests that this could impact the Bees’s plan for an Ivan Toney exit, who has shown impressive signs in the recently concluded European Championships on a high.
That being said, Brentford can still sanction a Toney exit. It’s just that it wouldn’t be a cheap deal but rather a hefty fee.
It is difficult to see Spurs breaking the bank for Toney, given other possible options in the market at the moment. Possibly the North Londoners can wait until January and pull him in a bargain deal when he is counting down his contract at Gtech Community Stadium.
