Tottenham Hotspur’s Gallagher pursuit under threat from Atletico Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur prime target Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners hope to land the England international’s signature by a thread.
There is a dire need for a new midfielder at White Hart Lane, and Ange Postecoglou has been pursuing a move for the Chelsea midfielder since he took charge of the club last summer. Moreover, he lost Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and is on the verge of losing Giovani Lo Celso, and he would want to ensure he gets sufficient replacements in the middle of the park going into the upcoming campaign.
Heartbreak for Spurs?
The Lilywhites have been linked with a move for Gallagher for a while, although nothing has materialised despite aggressive links. And while Daniel Levy & Co. were pondering a possible bid, Atletico Madrid compounded on landing his signatures, and they escalated their pursuit of the player.
Los Colchoneros have held positive discussions with the player that Mauricio Pochettino tagged as ‘priceless’, and both clubs are working to find common ground to conclude a transfer, per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Romano, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote:
Chelsea are hoping to conclude a deal for a €40 million fee, and it is close to Spurs valuation of his services. However, Daniel Levy might need to pull off another hijack if they are going to land the 24-year-old this summer.
The deal gets trickier for Tottenham as time progresses and Atletico gets closer to securing Gallagher.
