Tottenham eyeing Manchester City full-back as Emerson Royal replacement this summer

Tottenham insider dismisses Issa Kabore links, back Spence as Porro understudy

Tottenham Hotspur are subject to links with Manchester City’s full-back Issa Kabore as a potential addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad going into the upcoming campaign.

The links to Issa Kabore come from Emerson Royal’s exit from White Hart Lane. The South American is on his way out of N17, and the Lilywhites are expectedly looking to bring a replacement who could act as an understudy to Pedro Porro in the right-back position. And the links to Issa Kabore emerged following a report by Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.

Tottenham insider dismisses Issa Kabore links, back Spence as Porro understudy.
Tottenham have been looking at Man City full-back Issa Kabore.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a magnificent season on loan at Premier League side Luton Town in the last campaign, and that has brought in interest from multiple clubs, including Tottenham, especially considering his strong defensive display in the back line.

Issa moved to Manchester City in 2020 and spent the following season away at Mechelen. He further honed his skills with loan moves to Troyes and Marseille.

Last season, he got an opportunity to display his progress in the English first tier, playing for Luton Town. He made 24 Premier League appearances for the Hatters and established himself in the right wing-back role.

Tottenham confident in right-back depth

Transfer insider Paul O’Keefe took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reply with a simple “nope” to a tweet suggesting the North Londoners were not interested in signing Kabore.

He further clarified that the club already has Pedro Porro, with Djed Spence increasingly looking likely to stay at White Hart Lane. Moreover, Archie Gray can also play in the right-back role when needed.

When a supporter enquired about the possibility of Spence acting as a Porro backup in the right back role, O’Keefe affirmed that the former Middlesbrough player is the most preferred candidate for the role.

This also indicates that the club isn’t looking for a new right-back option at the moment and is rather interested in other areas of reinforcement.
