Tottenham express interest in signing Olympics 2024 star Amir Richardson
Morocco have been the dark horses of the Olympics 2024 football tournament, much like their senior team set the stage alight in the 2022 World Cup. They now have a date against Spain in the semifinals of the competition.
Led by a buoyant Achraf Hakimi, the African nation have played some very good football in the tournament so far but face one of the toughest teams in the competition in the semis. There have been many stars for Morocco but none so bigger than Amir Richardson.
The 22-year-old Stade de Reims midfielder has caught the eye with his performances in midfield. According to Foot Mercato, this has prompted Tottenham to express interest in signing him. The North London club will be closely watching him against Spain.
Richardson is on measly wages with the French club, earning just around €6k a week. There is absolutely no doubt that the 22-year-old will go back to his club and demand a higher wage after the Olympics.
Transfermarkt values the Stade de Reims star at just €6m at the moment but the price is expected to shoot up in the next update. This will also be reflected in the fee Tottenham will have to pay to sign the 22-year-old.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Richardson can also play comfortably in defensive midfield. He has already won seven caps for the Moroccan senior international team and the number is only set to keep going North.
With a contract that expires only in 2027 (Transfermarkt), the French club are in no rush to sell the 22-year-old. This implies that the ball is firmly in their court and they could make life difficult for Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou is no stranger to signing a youngster with a high ceiling. Spurs already have an African midfielder destined for the very top in Pape Matar Sarr and could add another one to the ranks with Richardson.
