Tottenham Hotspur face competition for Vanderson

Tottenham Hotspur have been in the market to acquire a new right-back this summer as South American defender Emerson Royal nears a move to AC Milan, and Monaco right-back Vanderson has been subject to links with a move to White Hart Lane.

Emerson Royal lost his place in Ange Postecoglou’s eleven at the start of the last season and has been chasing minutes ever since. Pedro Porro has taken up his space in the starting eleven at White Hart Lane, and the Lilywhites are looking for his understudy in the ongoing window.

Spurs do have Djed Spence on their roster; the former Middlesbrough defender has been impressive in the pre-season so far, and he has an opportunity to revive his career back at Tottenham. Summer recruit Archie Grey can also feature in the position.

Will Vanderson be a Lilywhite or a Red Devil?

That being said, the North Londoners are eyeing a specialist, and that is where a move for Vanderson comes into play. The Brazilian defender is said to be valued at around £40 million by Monaco.

He has been linked with a move for Spurs Premier League rivals Manchester United, who are also looking to replace current right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Napoli join the race for Monaco defender Vanderson

While the Premiership giants look for possibilities to sign the South American defender, Antonio Conte and Napoli have emerged as potential destinations for the player, per Area Napoli.

The former Spurs manager in charge of Napoli is looking to use Italian international Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the right-sided centre-back role of a back-back three next season, and he wants to bring in Vanderson to play in the right-wing back role.

However, the Italian publication adds that the Naples-based club will only make a move for Vanderson in the final days of the summer window.

This comes as

a positive for Tottenham, as they can get time and space to evaluate if there is a need to sign Vanderson or if they can continue with their current options going into next season.
