Tottenham Hotspur presented with chance to sign long-time target in bargain deal

Tottenham given the chance to sign Weston McKennie

Tottenham Hotspur have already signed the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall this summer, but it is not ruled out for them to bring in an experienced figure to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to Express, they have been presented with an opportunity to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus after it emerged that the midfielder was no longer a part of Thiago Motta’s plans.

The newly appointed Juventus coach decided to exclude the American along with seven other first-team members from his pre-season preparations to allow them to find new clubs.

McKennie has been linked with a transfer to England for several weeks now and it had seemed like he would join Aston Villa as part of a swap deal for Douglas Luiz.

However, a move to Birmingham did not materialise with other players included in the exchange between the two clubs and as a result, Spurs have been credited with interest.

Tottenham Hotspur have their eye on Juventus star Weston McKennie.
Juventus star Weston McKennie has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur once more.

Tottenham have monitored McKennie for a long time, primarily during the 2022 World Cup, although a switch to north London never materialised back then due to no security over the managerial figure.

Given that the 25-year-old has entered the final year of his contract in Turin, the Bianconeri are obliged to sell him to avoid losing him for free. McKennie’s estimated valuation is €28 million on Transfermarkt.

The ex-Schalke star is a brilliant central midfielder, who is also capable of being a creative outlet from the deeper areas of the pitch. In the 2023/24 season, McKennie assisted 10 goals in all competitions in 38 appearances.

He can

play on the left and right sides of midfield too and has an impeccable fitness record, which has seen him miss only four matches in the last two seasons put together.

It will not come as a surprise if the player’s entourage themselves offer McKennie to Tottenham, in which case their hopes of landing the American on a discounted deal could be bolstered.

Ange Postecoglou could likely make the final decision regarding the Juventus star’s signing but even the Australian manager’s eyes could glitter at the prospect of signing him for a reduced fee.
