Spurs face Liverpool hurdle in bid to sign Solanke
Tottenham Hotspur have already signed Timo Werner but Ange Postecoglou confirmed during the club’s tour of South Korea that he would like more nourishment in the striker’s position this summer.
The Australia said (via Mirror):
It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us. Looking forward to finishing things up in a positive manner and hopefully a good way to finish it off.”
Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has been linked with the club following a 19-goal blitz in the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign.
While the Cherries acknowledge that there is bound to be interest in his services, they are likely to refer any of Solanke’s suitors to his £65 million release clause. Spurs are hoping that Bournemouth would be enticed by the prospect of a few Tottenham players in a possible swap deal.
It has emerged, however, that Liverpool retain a 20% share of profits made through Solanke’s future transfer and the Reds will come into the picture if the forward were to join Tottenham this summer, according to Mirror. All this is thanks to Michael Edwards’ smart decision to include the clause in his negotiation back in 2019.
Bournemouth are wary and as a result, they may not be prepared to accept any makeweights in terms of players from Tottenham to let go of Solanke in the transfer window. Transfermarkt values Solanke currently at around €40m.
Not only do Tottenham have their hands tied to a certain extent, but Bournemouth’s potential hesitance in negotiating a cheaper deal works against them and as a result, the north Londoners could be forced to chase alternatives for the English star.
