Tottenham are believed to have met with Dominic Solanke’s agent and discussed about a potential move
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham have opened talks with the representatives of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke ahead of a potential swoop.
The Lilywhites have set their sights on signing a new striker in this transfer window. Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has emerged as a top target for the club. The English centre-forward impressed last season for Bournemouth, netting 21 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. With 19 goals in the Premier League alone, he finished as the fourth joint-top scorer in the division.
The 26-year-old’s goalscoring exploits at the Vitality Stadium haven’t gone unnoticed, with Liverpool and Arsenal also credited with an interest. Solanke, under contract until 2027, has a release clause of £65 million. However, Tottenham are reluctant to meet the striker’s sizeable release clause outright.
The aforementioned report states Tottenham are ready to test Bournemouth’s resolution with a £42.6m first offer. Solanke is believed to be open to leaving the Cherries this summer, provided he gets a good offer.
Given Solanke’s importance, development and high value to Andoni Iraola’s squad, Bournemouth are unlikely to sell the striker unless Spurs or any suitor pay his full £65 million release clause. The 26-year-old is now among the highly-rated strikers in the Premier League, so Spurs are expected to find negotiations with his club difficult.
The north Londoners are in desperate need of an out-and-out striker to lead their attack next season. Son Heung-min and Richarlison performed well last season as Ange Postecoglou found creative ways to extract their best centrally but for a Spurs side to improve and challenge for Champions League spots they need a pure presence in the box.
Solanke, in that regard, fits the criteria perfectly. The former Chelsea and Liverpool man who was given his debut by Jurgen Klopp may not be a prolific goalscorer, as evidenced by his 29 Premier League goals in 134 outings, but his development in the last two years has been meteoric. The striker has started showing signs of reaching his true potential that he showed during his academy days at Chelsea.
