Since head coach Ange Postecoglou expressed his desire to sign a new No.9 in this summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur have completely focused on the acquisition of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
Dominic Solanke has emerged as the Lilywhites’ No.1 striker target after a productive 2023/24 campaign with Bournemouth, where he registered 19 goals in 38 Premier League outings. Tottenham have now stepped up their efforts to sign the former England youth international, who has a £65m release clause in his contract.
While Spurs have been busy trying to agree a fee with the Cherries for Solanke, it looks like one of their targets could be heading across the capital to Chelsea.
According to reliable RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea are in advanced talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Pedro Neto. The Portugal international is open to joining the Blues, with talks between both Premier League clubs in the final stages.
“EXCLUSIVE Pedro Neto is set to sign at Chelsea,” Fabrice Hawkins tweeted from his official X account.
“Talks at final stage between Chelsea and Wolverhampton. The player wants to join #CFC. Agreement in principle ok.”
Chelsea progressing quickly in talks with Wolves to sign Neto is a big blow to Tottenham, who have been on their list of summer transfer targets. Spurs have appreciated the 24-year-old after his highly productive displays for Wolves in recent years.
Neto has entered the transfer market as a sought-after commodity off the back following a strong yet injury-ravaged campaign at Molineux. The versatile wide-man, who represented Portugal at the Euro 2024, performed extremely well for the Wanderers this past season, contributing 11 assists and three goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.
Ange Postecoglou is seeking to reinforce his wide department too, especially after allowing Bryan Gil to depart on loan to Spanish side Girona. Gil’s exit, combined with the inconsistent displays of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson, have accentuated Spurs’ need for a new dynamic winger who can operate on both flanks.

Keeping that in mind, someone with Neto’s flair, dynamism, pace and creativity would have certainly been a top option for the north London club. There was certainly room for the ex-Lazio man to come in and give Postecoglou’s side a fresh option in attack. The Portuguese trickster would have been an excellent option to enhance Spurs’ offensive department while adding quality to the squad.
All in all, Neto would have fit the high-pressing, attacking system of Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but sadly we will have to switch to other wide targets as he is closing in on a move to our London rivals Chelsea.
