Ange Postecoglou delivers bullish assessment of £55m Tottenham signing

Postecoglou welcomes Solanke’s arrival at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have added some much-needed firepower to their offensive department in time for the new Premier League season, thanks to Dominic Solanke’s signing from Bournemouth.

The former Liverpool striker arrives in north London for a £65 million transfer fee. Spurs will pay £55 million in fixed proceeds while the remainder of the sum is due to be subject to the completion of certain performance-related bonuses.

Daniel Levy has negotiated a favourable deal for Solanke. While his release clause was said to be £65 million, the Lilywhites’ chief has seen to it that £10 million worth of payment hinges on whether or not his newest recruit manages to cope with expectations at the club.

Ange Postecoglou also spoke very highly of the possible Harry Kane replacement’s purchase. Fabrizio Romano quoted the manager saying:

“Solanke was one I was very keen to get in. It took a while to get over the line but he’ll be a great fit for us, I’m sure.”

The 26-year-old was on target 19 times in the Premier League over the course of the 2023/24 season and therefore, it comes as no surprise that Tottenham were keen on his transfer given that he is a tried and tested option in the Premier League, even for Liverpool.

In fairness, the Englishman showed great promise in his days at Anfield too but was too young and underdeveloped to compete with Roberto Firmino. Nonetheless, one man’s loss is another man’s gain as Tottenham now finds themselves recruiting a fantastic striker who was let go of by the Reds.

Tottenham host Leicester City next Monday on home turf in their opening Premier League game of 2024/25 and it is very much possible that Solanke plays right from the word go against the Foxes.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

His recruitment provides Postecoglou with two brilliant attackers, Solanke and Werner, while Richarlison also seems set to stay with the club. The Brazilian needs an injury-free run and it should not come as a surprise if he also proves his credentials for Spurs in the next year.
