The centre-back position is quite weird to analyse in the current Tottenham Hotspur team, due to the presence of three high-quality options and none beyond that. The starters are exceptional but Ange Postecoglou might want to bring one more addition.
Last season, Tottenham started off the season like an express train and looked assumed with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at the back. Things hit rock bottom when the duo were out injured though.
Spurs did address the situation by signing Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January 2024. The Romanian international might not have gotten much game time last season but he is bound to be more involved in the upcoming one.
Fulham launch £20m bid for Tottenham Hotspur target Joachim Andersen
As per the Athletic, Fulham now have launched a £20m bid to sign Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen. The 28-year-old is one of the most assured centre-backs in the Premier League, exuberating calmness in the backline.
Tottenham have been credited with interest in the defender in the past few days. The Eagles are asking for around £40m to part ways with Andersen which leaves the Cottagers £20m short in their valuation.
The Danish international incidentally had a loan spell in Fulham in the 2020-21 season. With his experience, he would be a calm head in a young backline at Spurs but he is unlikely to want to be fourth choice in the pecking order.
Andersen is too good to be on the bench for most games in a season. If Spurs were to make an offer, the 28-year-old might not accept it but we have seen crazier things happen in football to still have hope.
It remains to be seen how Fulham react to this demand by Palace and if they return with a revised bid for their transfer target. Interesting times lie ahead for Andersen’s future and let’s see if Spurs jump in at any point.
